Kinder Creators

Kinder Creators is a children's art program geared towards ages 1-5. This program is inspired by the Saskatchewan early learning curriculum "Play and Exploration" and takes elements from the Reggio Emilia Approach, the Montessori Method, and the works of many early childhood studies, researchers, and psychologists.

The Instructor

Miss Caitlin

Hello! I'm Miss Caitlin, the program coordinator for Kinder Creators. I'm a certified ECE with a huge passion for process art and inspiring littles to embrace curiosity, exploration and creativity. You'll also usually find my youngest son, Colt, joining me at art sessions.

I created Kinder Creators in 2020 to provide the parents and caregivers of Humboldt with a free program that wasn't orientated around physical activity. When I was on maternity leave with my oldest son, I noticed there were a lot of opportunities for sports and movement but there wasn't a lot of public opportunities for art, music, and play for young children.

In our busy lives of extra-curriculars and with access to so much technology, I wanted to give the littles in our community the opportunity to create and explore at their own pace. The more freedom children are granted to create and explore, the more opportunities they have to learn and master new skills while developing creative thinking and problem solving. The pandemic paused the program but when the Humboldt Early Years Family Resource Centre opened, I knew it was the perfect partnership.

Process Art can be difficult to get used to when we are accustomed to pre-planned crafts. However, the more we provide open experiences to children, the more they trust themselves and begin to use their imagination and critical thinking skills to create.

Process Art and child-led/interest based experiences are the gold standard in art education for the early years.
