Dear Parents and Guardians,
Arts Humboldt, with a generous sponsorship by PotashCorp Lanigan, is excited to be bringing the Missoula Children’s Theater to Humboldt for the second year in a row after a number of years away!
The audition for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of The Secret Garden will be held on Monday, Sept. 9 (4:00 p.m.) at the Humboldt Public School Gymnasium. There are roles for students Kindergarten through grade 12. Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Students wishing to audition must arrive by 4:00 p.m. and stay for the entire two-hour session. Students must also be prepared to stay at HPS for the first rehearsal shortly after the auditions until about 8:00 p.m. (not all students will be required to stay).
This is a group audition – no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile and enthusiasm never hurt. Students should just be ready to come and have a good time!
The remaining rehearsals will be conducted Tuesday to Friday (Sept. 10-13) from 4:00 – 8:30 at Humboldt Collegiate Institute on the stage, in the commons area, and in one other room. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must keep their schedules clear for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full 4½ hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a bag lunch, dinner, or snack (we will not be providing this, sorry).
The performances will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. on the Humboldt Collegiate stage. The students in the cast will also need to be available earlier that day for dress rehearsal before the performance that day. All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances and dress rehearsal.
The Secret Garden, an original Missoula Children’s Theatre rendition, is a joyful retelling of a story of hope and celebration and all good things in life. Mistress Mary Quite Contrary embarks on a journey from India to her uncle’s home in England. Along the way she makes friends with the hilarious Canadian Geese and the colorful Giant Bugs that Rock! In time she learns to appreciate everything around her, including the Moor Animals and the helpful Fireflies. Add to that a good healthy dose of caring, and what happens? Colin, Martha, Archibald – well the whole household – begin to enjoy the return of health and happiness in a garden carefully tended…until it blossoms once more.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. This coming year more than 65,000 cast members across the globe will take to the stage to the delight and applause of their families, friends, community, neighbors and teachers! The residency in Humboldt is made possible by:
Arts Humboldt, PotashCorp Lanigan, Sask Lotteries
City of Humboldt, Humboldt Collegiate Institute, and Humboldt Public School.
